Takatsukiyama Recreational Ground
At around the top of Mt. Takatsukiyama (131 meters) with a whole view of Kerama Strait, there is a recreational ground with a sidewalks and a view deck, where you can enjoy the panoramic scenery composed of the archipelago seascape of the Kerama Islands, and Agono-ura and Furuzamami Beaches. During the season from December to March when schools of migrating humpback whales are likely to be found, this recreational ground is used for whale watching. In late March or April, Rhododendron scabrum is at its best, in bloom, bursting with spring flowers.
It was a hard - fought field for the Japanese and American Army in 1945, now they made it a scenic point with a splendid view. It has more tourists than any other spots in Zamami Island because of the well maintained roads and its plain walk.
