Kerama Deer is said to be the one living in the most southern area in Japan.
Yakabi Island
This uninhabited island, is a special reservation for Kerama deer. Covered in sub-tropical virgin forest of Shida plants or Yaeyama Palms , the island is a natural paradise. It is well known as a treasure house of tropical animals and plants.
Yakabi Island is in 5.3 kilometers west of Zamami Island. It is 1.26 square kilometers in area, 214 meters above the sea level, and has 5.3 kilometers around. During the WW1 and WW2, coper was mined in this island, but it was closed after the end of the war. The top of this island is deified. It is well known as a treasure house of tropical animals and plants. Kerama Deer live in it and sea turtles lay eggs in breeding season.
